Ik ben een carnivoor en ik eet bijna alles dat je in het water kan vinden (zowel in zoet water als in zout water). Soms eet ik zelfs dieren die niet in het water leven, zoals bijvoorbeeld wormen.

Als jonge vis leef ik in zoet water. Op latere leeftijd kan je me tegenkomen in het gebied van IJsland en Noorwegen tot aan de Afrikaanse kust, in de Middellandse Zee en in de Zwarte Zee.
