Cod

the pride of Portugal

In Portugal, they call me bacalhau, and salted cod is a very common dish in throughout the country. The Portuguese have prepared me this way since 1497 when they first arrived in North America. By salting the cod they solved a serious problem of maritime expeditions: the conservation of food during the trip.
